Woodland Jumping Mouse (Napaeozapus insignis) |
Napaeozapus insignis occurs throughout northeastern North America from eastern Manitoba to Quebec, extending south through the Appalachians to northern Georgia. It is found in deciduous and mixed forests, e.g., in riparian areas, bogs and swamps. Woodland Jumping Mouse is similar in appearance to Zapus ssp., but differs in cranial features, brighter colours, and a white tail tip. Its diet comprises of fungi, seeds, insects, and berries. The species hibernates from September-October to April-May.
